DESCRIPTION
Each systems consists of one Rack Chassis containing: 1 each module 408P, power supply; 1 each module 408M, controller, MPU; 1 to 8 module(s) 408A, independently variable AC and/or DC output voltage(s). All modules may be switched from AC to DC or DC to AC on command. Remote control via <GPIB> GPIB Interface Bus.

CUSTOMIZING
The model 408 is indicative of the flexibility of EDC Engineering Department to design special modifications to meet customers’ individual requirements. Please call us if you have need of customized references, calibrators, standards or sources.

APPLICATIONS
An imbedded standard for ATE and Data Logging Systems. Synthesize linear velocity sensors, simultaneous calibration of multiple instrumentation and data logging systems without multiplexing delays, simulation of transducers. Used for the design, evaluation and calibration of accelerometers, amplifiers, A/D converters, digital and analog meters.

GPIB PROGRAMMING
GPIB Programming Format (IEEE-488.1): The 408 is “listener” and limited “talker”. Integrated microprocessor GPIB Interface. The chassis is addressed with one Listen Address (MLA). Each module then responds to a data shipment.
Reporting: Parallel or Serial Polling. Request for Service (SRQ). Address Assignment: Switch selectable per chassis. This system is programmable via the GPIB Bus Interface. Each system has its own selectable bus address. The amplitude of each module is individually controllable (programmable). Each module has one independently variable ac voltage output (amplitude) which is programmed in BCD with five digit resolution plus one additional byte to control the phase angle.
Connectors:
MS type, located on rear panel.
Front Panel Configuration: Main Chassis: Power switch with indicator. Modules: Module Listening Indicator (MLA), Service Request Indicator (SRQ). The output of each module is constantly monitored. The “SRQ” will be flagged in the event of a failure within a module. On request, a status byte will be placed on the bus, indicating the specific location of the failed module. If an individual module should fail, then the analog section of that module will shut down; the digital section will continue to operate. This gives the control of the module to the system controller so that a retry or a restart may be attempted. The 408A Modules are interchangeable between chassis slots as well as between instruments. This allows for interchangeability and expansion.
